Audience Research
For this Section of the Project Called Audience Research I had to conduct a survey, By collecting this information I would be able to have an idea of what my music magazine would look like, I asked 10 people 20 questions through the site quicksurveys.com to get the information I need, Most of my questions had Visuals (Pictures, Samples) to accompany them.
The reason that I conducted a Survey is for me to gain insight on what a Customer wants from an R&B Magazine. When doing my audience research I asked questions such as their gender, making it clear to who was doing my survey with the majority being girls as they seem to buy magazines a lot more than boys as they are intrigued into celebrity life and culture. I also asked questions like what masthead they would want and what font it should be. I did this because I wanted to know what would catch a customers eye. I tried to put various options into my magazine so people have the choice and it isn't so minimal and to capture peoples eye so they could get the idea of what the magazine will be like and the people that did it will be more interested in the magazine.
I did my survey on www.quicksurveys.com and sent it to people via, facebook and twitter, I did this because this is what the majority of Teenagers, Young Adults and Adults are on, Second of all, social networking has a lot of power at this present time and by using social media such as Twitter, Facebook, BlackBerry Messenger & MSN, I will gain a Wider Perspective especially in the answers.
By doing this magazine it really helped me upcoming to my magazine as it helps me to know what to put into my magazine and not just from my point of view, as that will not be everyones taste, so I put all my ideas on the survey and let the audience choose as they will be the one buying my magazine.
Below you can see what the questions looked like from the completed survey:

Question 5
Question 6
Here I asked the gave the Audience 3 Magazine Names To Choose from, Choices were; 212, Epic & Verve.
The audience seemed to prefer the title '212' from the choices I had given them indicating that the audience wants a title that is short and snappy, I think 212 is a good choice as it is music related, Epic & Verve weren't too far off proving to be another popular choice. |
Question 7
My audience all decided that the magazine should be priced from £1-£1.99. From asking my audience about the pricing I already concluded that they didn't want to spend that much money on a magazine so by making it cheap it allows the reader to save money and save throughout the month for the upcoming issue.

Question 8
Technology is a very successful and well-known movement which is recognised by everyone. Having technological products advertised in my magazine could heavily influence my Magazine Sales. By advertising techy items it will let my audience know that I know what they want and that I also know what is popular among today's trends. Having these advertisements can also boost monthly income as I am advertising a Product from a Successful Company like e.g. Apple, BlackBerry, HP.

Question 9
Question 10
Here I asked whether the Audience would like the Magazine available in a Digital Format to download and 90% of the Audience said Yes and 10% said "No" - The audience will want it in digital format because we live in a world where technology rules so we might as well take advantage.
Also, People do work on the move, nobody really has time to sit down and read a Magazine so it'll be convenient if they had a Digital Format of the Magazine that they can read on the Go. |
